Ligeti dead.
He was more than a teacher for me: so absolutely demanding for truth-speaking
(George Orwell's 1984 the other way round). He opened my view on many people
in the business of new music. But Ligeti sometimes overshooted: The bricolage
of Derrida, philosophy as a playingground for possible/impossible thoughts,
was never understood by Ligeti...
So now he is no more than a picture in my mind: A composer like a scientist,
searching for new solutions to deal with music, to understand the deep impact
music can offer. But there is more: Music as a symbol to paint the human mind,
to describe what our mind is. And: Writing music not for the fun of other
people. BUT: Let us be sure that this is not the last word: Ligeti wrote
music to irritate us, to cause deep and heartjumping enthusiasm, and to conquer
girls...
